Paul Scholes is tipping Manchester United to beat Manchester City in the Premier League clash on Sunday
Paul Scholes is confident that Manchester United have what it takes to beat Manchester City in Sunday’s crunch derby showdown at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils head into the game already eight points behind the Premier League leaders and knowing that a defeat would leave them 11 points behind Pep Guardiola’s men heading into the hectic festive period in the top flight.
Victory for the home side would of course lower the gap to a much more favourable five points and give the Red Devils realistic hope of catching the runaway leaders.
Manchester City have been in superb form all season and have only dropped points once in 15 Premier League games so far.
Jose Mourinho’s side, meanwhile, will be without the suspended Paul Pogba against their bitter local rivals on Saturday following his sending-off against Arsenal last weekend.
But former Manchester United midfielder Scholes appears confident that the Red Devils can claim all three points against their neighbours.
Speaking to BT Sport on Tuesday night, Scholes said: “I think they can beat City on Sunday, but we’ll just have to wait and see.”
Manchester United are aiming to try and win the Premier League title this season for the first time since their final triumph under Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013.
The Red Devils finished sixth in the table last term.
